Why risk everything you own?

15

Put your hope in wealth

Put your hope in

God

1 Tim 6:17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God.    Rev 3:17-18  "You say, 'I am rich, with everything I want; I don't need a thing!' 16

Make excuses why you can't or won't give to God

Give to God

first

I Kg 17:13-16  Elijah said to (the widow), "Don't be afraid... first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. . . She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah & for the woman & her family.   Gen 28:20-22  Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will watch over me...then the LORD will be my God...and of all that You give me I will give you a tenth."     Dt 14:23  The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives.

17

Give to God spora-

dically or think you'll give

"someday"

Give to God

faithfully

and syste-

matically

Luke 16:10  Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.      Hag 1:5-12  The Lord says: "Give careful thought to your ways...You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house."      Mal 3:10  The Lord says: "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse...if you do, I will open up the windows of heaven for you and pour out a blessing..."Try it! Let me prove it to you!"

18

Give to God reluctantly

Give to God

cheerfully

(hilariously)

2 Cor 9:7  Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.         2 Cor 8:12  If you are really eager to give, then it isn't important how much you have to give. God wants you to give what you have, not what you haven't.

 19

Give to God minimally

Give to God

propor-

tionately

2 Cor 8:7 See that you...excel in this grace of giving.

Deut 16:16-17  No man should appear before the LORD empty-handed:  Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you.

1 Cor 16:2 On the first day of the week let every one of you lay something aside, as God has prospered you.

20

Live for self

Give to God

eternally

Luke 12:16-21  A rich man's...barns were full to overflowing... He thought about his problem, and finally exclaimed, 'I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones! Then I'll have room enough'...But God said to him, 'Fool! Tonight you die. Then who will get it all?'  "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."

HELPFUL AND PRACTICAL ADVICE ON GIVING

By Brian Kluth (written and handed out to his church’s congregation)

IF YOU ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN:

Don't worry about giving to God -- but realize and accept what God wants to give to you  -- complete forgiveness, a brand new start, help for this life and a home in heaven.

FOR ALL CHRISTIANS:

Always make it a priority to faithfully give to your church first.  After supporting your church, give special gifts and offerings to other Christian causes, projects, missions or the needy.

HARVEST CHURCH 90-DAY PROMISE

Harvest Church is part of a growing number of churches around the country that practice a "90-day tithing money back promise."  Because God says in Malachi 3:10 that people can "Test Him" in the matter of tithing (giving the first 10% of our income to God's work), Harvest is willing to partner with people who want to step over a spiritual line and really begin to honor God and trust Him with their finances.  If during the 90 day testing period anyone regrets the decision they made to give 10% to God or if they feel they did not experience any divine help in their finances, they can contact the church office and have any amount of money that appears on their personal church giving statement from these 90 days refunded.

IF YOU WANT TO BEGIN GIVING TO GOD FIRST:

Here are four different ideas to choose from: 1) Whenever you get any money, set aside 10% or more of this money in a special place to give as the Lord directs.  2) Whenever you put a deposit in your checkbook, write out the first check(s) to God's work for 10% or more.  3) If you track your finances through a bookkeeping system or computer program, set up a category for your church giving and another one for other Christian causes -- then begin to faithfully set aside 10% or more of your income into these accounts.  4) Call the church office and sign-up for the electronic funds transfer program that will allow you to have a set amount sent from your checkbook to the church's bank account every month.

IF YOU ARE MARRIED TO A CHRISTIAN BUT THE TWO OF YOU

DO NOT AGREE ON YOUR GIVING TO THE LORD'S WORK:

See if your spouse will look over this handout, listen to the cassette sermon message on giving and/or read the flyer "Understanding the Grace of Giving."  Then talk together and pray about a mutually agreeable "testing period" and then begin to faithfully give to God's work.

IF YOU ARE MARRIED AND YOUR SPOUSE IS NOT A CHRISTIAN:

Identify any money you know you do have freedom with (read Luke 8:3) and set aside 10% or more of this money to give to the Lord's work AND/OR show this flyer to your spouse and see if you can participate in the Harvest Church 90-day promise and testing period.

IF YOU ARE DECIDING WHETHER TO GIVE OFF THE GROSS OR NET:

Pray and ask God what He want you to do.  If He prompts you in your heart to give off the gross, go ahead and do this and trust Him with the results.  If you don't have a peace about this, begin giving 10% off the net amount for a few months and see what happens.  If after a few months you experience His creative care in your life, then begin to give 10% or more of the gross.

IF YOU ARE A PARENT:

Help your children set up a place where they can set aside "God's portion" of any money they receive (i.e. - allowances, work projects, gifts of money, etc..).  Have them give at church, to missions or to help people in need from the money they "set aside" for God.

IF YOU WANT TO GIVE TO GOD'S WORK THROUGH

STOCKS, APPRECIATED INVESTMENTS, OR TANGIBLE ASSETS:

If God has blessed you with appreciated investments or tangible assets (a vehicle, equipment, land, buildings, etc.) that you would like to give for God's work, please call the church office (571-5040).
