God’s Secret Principles For

Financial Freedom

Brian Kluth – Sermon #4 in a 5 Part Series

Did you know…

  • There has been a 30+ year decline in the percentage of income Christians give to churches and ministries.  Currently, Christians give 1% to 3 1/2%, of their income.  The lowest %’s since the Great Depression.

  • According to George Barna’s research and Larry Burkett, only 5-8% of Christians actually give 10% or more of their annual income to churches and ministries.

Man's Ways God's Ways
1 – RATIONALIZE why you can’t afford to give

Give to God FIRST

I Kg 17:13-16  Elijah said to (the starving widow), "Don't be afraid... first make a small cake of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son.  For this is what the LORD says: 'The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry...".  She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.    Gen 28:20-22  Jacob made a vow, saying, "If God will be with me and will watch over me...then the LORD will be my God...and of all that You give me I will give you a tenth."    Deut 14:23  The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to put God first in your lives.

2 – GIVE sporadically Give FAITHFULLY

Hag 1:5-12  "Give careful thought to your ways...You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?" declares the LORD Almighty. "Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with his own house."   Mal 3:10  The Lord says: "Bring all the tithes into the storehouse...if you do, I will open up the windows of heaven for you and pour out a blessing... "Try it! Let me prove it to you!"

3 – Give RELUCTANTLY GIVE cheerfully/hilariously

2 Cor 9:7  Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.         2 Cor 8:12  If you are really eager to give, then it isn't important how much you have to give. God wants you to give what you have, not what you haven't.

4 – Give LEFTOVERS Give PROPORTIONATELY

2 Cor 8:7 See that you...excel in this grace of giving.    Deut 16:16-17  No man should appear before the LORD empty-handed:  Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the LORD your God has blessed you.   1 Cor 16:2 On the first day of the week let every one of you lay something aside, as God has prospered you.

5 – Live for TODAY Give for ETERNITY

Luke 12:16-21  A rich man's...barns were full to overflowing... He thought about his problem, and finally exclaimed, 'I'll tear down my barns and build bigger ones! Then I'll have room enough'...But God said to him, 'Fool! Tonight you die. Then who will get it all?'  "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."
